Mission Group From Wilmington, NC
My first group! I'm so
proud! We had a great time. It was a small but mighty group, with
Rix, the pastor, Jonathan, the gigante (giant, ie 6'7"), and Elisita, the
grandma and ex-Guatemalteca. Selena, Victor, Joe and I all started the
trip together. By the time it was all said and done, it was just Selena
and I. And Martin took over for Victor when his pink eye worsened (all is
well now, Gracias a Dios!). This trip started only four days after my
arrival in Cantel on Saturday, Oct 11th and ended on the following
Saturday.
In this short time, not only did
we create friendships with each other but also with our Guatemalan brothers and
sisters. You'll see all the places we visited below, the iglesia in Santa Fe,
where we built two water filters and made homeopathic salves; the colonia, where
we saw composting toilets in use (well, not REALLY "in use", but you
know what I mean) and visited homes built by DIACONIA; the finca in San Felipe,
where they harvest coffee, bananas and anything else that will make them money;
the Instituto de Biblia, where Scott works where we painted bathrooms; and Agua
Calientes, where we had a lovely lunch and learned more about the education and
economics of Guatemala.
As a reward, we went to Antigua
for our last night and day, and you'll see a few pics of that too. For
more, check out Mission Wilmington.
