Happy Birthday Eduardo!
Our host brother Eduardo had his
10th birthday on April 9th. We had promised that we would cook him a
special dinner. However, it turns out that his birthday coincided with
Good Friday, which meant that we spent the entire day and night at church.
There was no time for cooking.
About a week after his birthday,
we remembered our promise and brought it up at the dinner table. Graciela
said, "That's right! A sad-faced Eduardo came up to me a few days ago
and said, 'Scott and Gabby promised to cook me dinner and they never
did!'" Poor kid.
So, we agreed on a future date and
decided to cook his favorite... meat on the grill. We fired up the
charcoal and barbecued chicken. We bought tons of veggies and mashed
potatoes. It was fun for the whole family. To top it all off, we
brought the grill inside (when your whole house is made of concrete and cinder
block, you can do this) and made S'mores. Good times.
