An Excuse For Pics
Dia
de Guadalupe is a Catholic holiday in Guatemala where folks gather to honor the
Guadelupe. In Quetzaltenango, the result of this celebration is a whole bunch
of people in the Central Park pressuring their children to get all dressed up
and take pictures in front of baby animals and scary figurines. On the
whole, it's not unlike our fettish for finding some stranger dressed up like
Kris Kringle at the local shopping mall and paying a few bucks to plop our
screaming kids on his lap while we snap a quick pic. Still, the kids are
pretty darn cute. Besides, if you play your cards right, you can sneak
some pics of your own without having to pay the professional
photographers. (Should missionaries be doing that? The Good Lord
only knows.)
