All in the Family & Cha-cha-cha-changes!
While we may not be the Bunch de
Brady, some of us still wear mis-matchy clothes and have big hair. The
second was taken care of recently in the pictures below. The other is just
the style and the cultural dress here called traje. I have a new concept
of fashion and what goes together. Interestingly and appropriately there
is no translation for "to match" in Spanish. I may need help
readjusting when we return home.
And when I was growing up when
you're under 3, you got baths in the sink. And here in Guatemala it's no
different. Except it's outside and the sink is called a pila.
Haircuts are done by your parents and if you're lucky, no one can tell the
difference. But, of course, there are a few differences. Our new
flushing toilet is maroon and not really inside. Our new shower is a great
room for bathing naked but we still heat our water outside by fire.
Where we're from, kids aren't
allowed to touch the matches under the age of 12 or so. Here you get to
use them as soon as you tie your shoes. You even get to spend a Saturday
burning the family land to avoid a worse and out-of-control blaze when you're
not around. Check out our family and a birthday celebration complete with
comida de gringos, hamburgers.
